Kia’s rapid global rollout of electric cars is showing no signs of slowing down, with the ambitious Korean brand unveiling its latest electric car that’s primed to place it as a major competitor to sales leaders Tesla and BYD.

The Kia EV4 will join the brand’s fast-growing electric range which includes the award-winning EV9 large SUV, the sleek EV6, EV5 medium SUV and compact EV3 SUV.

Developed in both hatch and sedan body types, the EV4 is anticipated to bring a mix of bold styling, strong levels of technology and sustainable interior finishes in line with Kia’s other electric cars.

“By offering both sedan and hatchback variants, we are bringing to our customers, the unique experience of modernity and practicality that defines the Kia EV family, in a way that suits their varied lifestyles and needs,” Head of Kia Global Design Karim Habib said in a statement.

If announced for Australia, Kia would hope the EV4 can help the brand compete against a surge of new Chinese brands entering the local new car market with electric-only range and aggressive pricing.

Small hatches from ambitious Chinese brands including the MG4, GWM Ora and BYD Dolphin are already among Australia’s cheapest electric cars on sale.

2025 is shaping up to be a big year for Kia, with the replacement for the top-selling Cerato, the K4, already on sale, and the highly anticipated Kia Tasman ute arriving mid-year.

How much does a Kia EV4 cost?

Local pricing for the EV4 has yet to be announced by Kia Australia.

Based on Kia’s pricing and positioning of the larger EV5 mid-size , the Kia EV4 would likely start around $50,000 if released in Australia, and increase for higher-spec variants delivering more features and longer range.

A starting price of around $50,000 would place the EV4 sedan head to head with the BYD Seal, Tesla Model 3, Hyundai Kona, and the hybrid-only Toyota Camry, but entry-level variants of the rear-wheel drive MG4 hatch would still significantly undercut the EV4 hatch.

The Kia EV4 is likely to be priced around $50,000 AUD, putting it in competition with many other leading EVs.

What is the range of the Kia EV4?

Kia has continued to improve the range and technology of its electric car range since the rollout of the Kia EV6 in 2022.

Expect a range of around 500 kilometres on a single charge for the entry-level variant of the EV4, positioning it to be a great option for daily commuting and longer weekend road trips for families, couples and singles. The EV4’s sleeker sedan and hatch styling may enable the EV4 to exceed the EV3’s range, which offers a range between 436km to 605km depending on variant.

Kia EV4 exterior design

The styling of Kia’s EV6, EV9, EV5 and EV3 electric range has won plaudits for its edgy and futuristic appearance, so expect much of Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy to translate well in the metal to the more traditional body types of the EV4.

The EV4 sedan will feature “a sleek, low nose and long-tail silhouette” according to Kia, while the hatch will deliver “distinctive and clean” styling.

Initial images of the EV4 sedan showcase a more aggressive design compared to the similarly-sized K4 sedan. Curiously, the EV4 sedan sports rugged wheelarches with black plastic that are more often found on small and medium SUVs such as the Subaru Crosstrek . Combined with the vertically-styled taillights, the EV4 sedan has an SUV-like appearance and wider looking rear than the Tesla Model 3 and BYD Seal.

Expect a sleek exterior for the 2025 Kia EV4, with a wider-looking rear providing a more SUV-like appearance.

What is the interior of the Kia EV4 like?

Little is known officially about the EV4’s interior with Kia electing to reveal the car’s exterior design only as part of its global unveiling, but expect the interior of the Kia EV4 to largely mirror that of the EV3.

The Kia EV3 features an array of recycled and sustainable materials, from recycled plastic in the dash and carpet to bio-paint on select interior finishes.

The EV4 may borrow the same set up as the EV3 when it comes to infotainment and displays. Kia EV3 models feature dual 12.5-inch digital screens - one for the instrument cluster, the other for infotainment - with an additional 5-inch screen dedicated to the climate control functions.

Kia EV4 GT

The Kia EV4 might have a a longer range than the EV3 but an official launch date for Australia is yet to be announced.

How will the Kia EV4 compare to the Kia EV3?

The Kia EV3 has been praised by local and international media for its efficiency and edgy design, and the EV4 is likely to build on these strengths when released.

The EV4 is anticipated to offer a longer range than the EV3, and it’s possible it may offer a more spacious interior - both thanks to its sleeker and more aerodynamic sedan profile.

When does the Kia EV4 go on sale in Australia?

An official launch of the Kia EV4 has yet to be announced by Kia Australia.
