Rental Car Excess Insurance

If you hire a car and happen to have an accident or it's stolen, cover is included for the excess on your Rental Car insurance policy, or the cost of repairs under the excess, whichever is the lesser.

If you hire a car and it is involved in an accident or stolen while in your control, RACV Rental Car Excess Insurance will provide an option to cover the excess payable in the event of a claim, or the cost of repairs under the excess, whichever is the lesser, up to the maximum benefit in the table below. 

To receive this benefit, you must have taken out comprehensive insurance with an applicable excess, have hired the car from a recognised rental car company and hold a valid driver's licence for the country you are in (even if the country doesn't require you to have a licence). This cover does not replace Rental Vehicle Insurance and only provides cover for the excess component up to the applicable benefit limit stated on your policy. Cover is provided for drivers accepted and noted on the rental agreement only.

Rental Car Excess is included in Comprehensive, Essential, RACV Annual Multi-Trip and RACV Domestic policies. Or you can purchase an RACV Rental Car Excess Plan and nominate an excess amount as your chosen level of cover between $1,000-$8,000 (rising in $1,000 increments).

If your doctor or dentist certifies that you are unfit to drive, this cover also provides a benefit of up to $500 of the costs of returning your rental vehicle to the rental company's nearest depot, provided this does not cause you to exceed the maximum benefit shown above.
