The Polestar 3 electric vehicle (EV) was one of the star attractions at the recent Melbourne EV Show, and is one of the most highly anticipated additions to Australia’s burgeoning electric vehicle market in 2024, alongside the new Ford Mustang Mach-E and revised Tesla Model 3.
As the latest model to join the Polestar line-up, the Swedish electric performance car brand aims to deliver on performance, features, and striking design with the Polestar 3, and to become a genuine alternative to large luxury SUVs from more established automakers transitioning to EVs.

What is the 2024 Polestar 3?
A Swedish brand owned by Volvo Cars, Polestar’s Chinese-produced cars are all-electric, with a focus on design, performance and technology. The Polestar 3 is the brand’s first large electric SUV.
Coming in at 4.9m long, seating five and including advanced technology, the Polestar 3 sits in the luxury SUV space, where it is looking to compete with models such as the Audi e-Tron and BMW iX.
How much is the 2024 Polestar 3?
The new Polestar 3 will launch two versions in Australia around mid-2024.
The Long range Dual motor, starting from $132,900, and the Long range Dual motor with Performance Pack, starting from $141,900, both before on-road costs.
Upgrades and optional add-ons are available for both models.
What’s the difference between the 2024 Polestar 3 models?
Both versions of the Polestar 3 include air suspension, panoramic glass roof, LED lighting for the interior and exterior, and retractable door handles with proximity sensing.
Alongside some variations in styling, features and trim, the key differences lie in the vehicle’s range, efficiency and performance. The Long range Dual motor produces 360kW and 840 Nm of torque (0-100 in 5.0 seconds)., while the Long range Dual motor with Performance Pack hikes output to 380kW and 910 Nm of torque (0-100 in 4.7 seconds)..
What are the features of the 2024 Polestar 3?
Advanced technology
The Polestar 3 comes equipped with a range of advanced features, including an AI-controlled infotainment system, driver-assistance technologies, and wider connectivity options.
Inside, a voice-controlled advanced infotainment 14.5-inch system sits in the centre console, with regular capabilities including maps, rear camera, and Bluetooth.
The infotainment system comes with three years of 5G internet including traffic updates, internet access and maps, while many functions around the car’s performance, safety, and driver assistance can be accessed with the press of a button.
One added plus is the intuitive Google Maps feature, which plans a route based on the car’s amount of battery, and can factor in stops at charging facilities along the way, if needed.
Another advanced feature is the ‘Driver profile,’ technology, which can store and remember details such as seating height, mirror settings, music preferences and wheel height to be automatically updated to the current driver.
Outside of the vehicle, many elements of the Polestar 3 can be controlled from a Smartphone app, from climate control to battery status and locking capabilities.
Efficient aerodynamics
The Polestar 3 combines its eye-catching design into the exterior for improved aerodynamic efficiency. Aero wings along the front and back of the vehicle are utilised to improve airflow and stability, while reducing turbulence for a smoother, quieter ride.
Bidirectional charging
The Polestar 3 is enabled for bidirectional charging, meaning it can also supply power back to the grid, power a home or even an appliance on a road trip.
2024 Polestar 3 range, charge and efficiency
The Polestar 3 is available as a one-pedal drive. It also features ‘Performance mode,’ an inbuilt system that adjusts the motor to deliver maximum power and acceleration when needed, while also optimising efficiency.
Polestar claims a range of 610km for the Long range Dual motor model, and 560 km for the Long range Dual motor Performance pack version.
Using a 250 kW DC charger, the Polestar 3 can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent within 30 minutes.
With an AC 11 kW charger, it could take up to 10 hours to fully charge the 111 kWh battery.

2024 Polestar 3 interior and exterior design
Polestar vehicles are known for a sleek minimalist design, and the Polestar 3 follows suit with bold lines and design language similar to that featured on the smaller Polestar 2.
Inside, Polestar 3 features a luxurious and tech-forward interior, with a range of options including premium wool or leather with black ash deco, or the MicroTech with aluminium deco made with sustainable materials.
Both speed and battery percentage information are situated on the 9” screen ahead of the driver.
The interior also has heating and cooling modes, with an inbuilt heat pump powered by thermal energy, and climate preconditioning that can pre-heat or cool the car while saving on battery.
The Polestar 3 has been designed with maximum storage space in mind, stretching to 484L of volume from the boot to the rear seating, and up to 1411L with the rear seats down for extra storage space, which can be lowered when loading and unloading goods into the back. There is also an extra 32L of storage under the front bonnet.
The Polestar 3's boot can be opened with a simple kick under the bumper – perfect for when both hands are full.
2024 Polestar 3 safety features
The 2024 Polestar 3 comes with a range of advanced safety features, including a Driver Maintenance System with Driver Alert Control, Lane Keeping Aid, Adaptive Cruise Control and Pilot Assist capabilities, alongside a Blind Spot Information System and 360° and rear-view cameras. The Polestar 3's run-off Road Mitigation safety feature helps steer the car back if the vehicle strays off the road surface.
A two closed-loop driver monitoring camera system uses eye tracking to trigger warning messages, sounds and even an emergency stop function when detecting a distracted, drowsy, or disconnected driver, while the Occupant Detection System alerts if a child or pet has accidentally been left in the car, or if the internal temperature reaches a dangerous level.
Please note: An ANCAP rating has not yet been released for the Polestar 3.
Where can I get the 2024 Polestar 3 in Australia?
While the vehicle is predicted to arrive in Australia around June 2024, Polestar has not announced an official release date for the Polestar 3 in Australia. It is, however, available for pre-order online.
In Victoria, the car is already on display at the Polestar Space at Chadstone Shopping Centre.
