The iconic Volkswagen Kombi has been reinvented for the electric generation in the form of the new Volkswagen ID. Buzz, the German brand's first fully electric vehicle to arrive in Australia. From pricing to release date in Australia, here's what you need to know about the new electric Kombi.

After years of anticipation, the electric Volkswagen ID. Buzz is on sale now in Australia boasting a modern exterior design and iconic retro inspiration from the original T1 Kombi. The Volkswagen ID. Buzz range is initially available in a 210kW single motor, rear-wheel drive configuration with either an 84kWh or 91kWh battery.

Available as the Volkswagen ID. Buzz Pro five and seven seat people carriers and the Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo van, the newest model is expected to become the second-best selling vehicle in the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles range behind the Amarok ute.

Depending on model, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz has a claimed driving range between 422km and 452km (WLTP). Both five seater minivan and Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo have a braked towing capacity up to 1200kg while the seven-seater can tow 1000kg.

A higher powered Volkswagen ID. Buzz GTX model is set to arrive later in 2025, boasting two motors and 250kW, delivering all-wheel drive performance with a higher specification and price point.

What electric cars are on the way from Volkswagen?

The Volkswagen Group Australia has already confirmed that the ID.4 and ID.5 GTX electric SUV models will follow the ID Buzz into local showrooms.

Volkswagen Group Australia has formed On EV, a new initiative across the group's sister brands which include Skoda, Audi and Cupra, to boost its electric car credentials and support customers in the transition to electric motoring.

This includes access to battery health checks at regular service times and an eight-year battery warranty that guarantees the battery will retain at least 70 per cent capacity at the end of the warranty period or up to 160,000 kilometres.

The program also includes flexible financing and lease options, solutions for charging at home and on the road including partnering with Chargefox, and guaranteed future value. All brands under the Volkswagen Group Australia umbrella are backed by national dealer networks that can provide an EV loan service car when needed. Additionally, the On EV program offers month-long test drives through Europcar, starting with the CUPRA Born hatchback, to allow potential customers to experience EV ownership before committing to a purchase.

Electric cars that are available now or this year from Volkswagen Group Australia portfolio include the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, ID. Buzz Cargo, ID.4, ID.5 GTX, Audi Q4 e-tron, Q6 e-tron, A6 e-tron, Škoda Enyaq, Škoda Elroq, and the CUPRA Born and CUPRA Tavascan.
