Frequently asked questions

An annexe is an extension of your caravan – like a pop-up tent – used for extra living space.

Your annexe is not automatically covered by your Onsite or Touring caravan Insurance policy, but it can be added as an optional extra. Adding this will increase the price of your premium.

Your Onsite or Touring Caravan Insurance policy covers the following contents owned by you or a family member, up to a certain amount (depending on what contents you are claiming):

  • CDs, DVDs, records and game cartridges
  • Clothing and personal belongings
  • Entertainment systems, TVs and stereos
  • Furniture and furnishings
  • Tools.

Keep in mind that computers, mobile phones, GPS systems, cameras, manuscripts, and bikes are not included.

For a complete list of inclusions and exclusions, refer to the Product Disclosure Statement.

It is not a legal requirement to insure a caravan in Victoria. However, purchasing caravan insurance can help protect you from significant bills in the event your caravan causes unintentional damage to another vehicle, or in the event of damage or loss occurring to your caravan as a result of an insured event, like fire, flood, storm, theft or attempted theft.

There are some insurance policies that provide cover up to a certain amount and others that do not. It depends on the insurer.

Both RACV Complete Care® and RACV Comprehensive Car Insurance policies provide up to $1000 towards repairing damage to your trailer or caravan in the event of an incident – however it is only if the loss or damage has occurred while the caravan or trailer was attached to or being towed by your vehicle. This cover excludes damage to the contents of the trailer or caravan and doesn’t cover when your caravan or trailer is parked at a campsite, your home or on the street.
