  • Some sports have conditions of cover and some are not covered at all.

  • All types of trekking or hiking below 3,000 metres in height

  • Husky sledge driving

*Quad bike means any motorised vehicle designed to travel on four or more wheels with a seat straddled by the rider and a set of handle bars that are used for controlling the steering.

Activities not covered

The following activities are not covered, Check the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) for full exclusions.

Skiiing

  • Skiing or snowboarding (unless You have purchased Our Ski and Winter Sports option)
  • Bob sleighing, snow rafting, parapenting, heli-Skiing, aerobatic Skiing, skijoring, Skiing with any form of power assisted equipment.

Snow-mobiles

  • Any kind of mechanised snow-mobiles, except those provided by piste authorities for transport to and from recreational skiing areas. You can buy the Ski and Winter Sports option to cover these.

Water activities

  • Diving underwater using an artificial breathing apparatus, unless you hold an open water diving licence issued in Australia or you are diving under licensed instruction.
  • Open water sailing

Hiking and climbing activities

  • Trekking or hiking above 3,000 metres in height
  • Parachuting, sky diving or base jumping
  • Mountaineering or rock climbing using ropes or climbing equipment (other than for hiking).

Professional or racing activities

  • Racing or participating in any timed event (other than on foot)
  • Taking part in any kind of professional sport, including training for that sport.

Activities with animals

  • Rodeo activity, either as an amateur or as a professional
  • Polo
  • Horse jumping
  • Running with the bulls
  • Hunting.

Vehicle activities

  • Freestyle BMX
  • Motocross

Loss or damage to sporting equipment

You’re not covered for loss or damage to any sporting equipment or vehicles while in use.

Liability for causing loss or damage to property, injury or death

You’re not covered for personal liability for any claim made against you arising from ownership, custody or use of any vehicle.

Ski and winter sports cover

You’ll need to buy Ski and Winter Sports Cover together with your policy, to be covered for activities like skiing and snowboarding. Keep in mind, this will affect the premium you pay.

Ski cover

Includes snow skiing and snowboarding provided you have purchased this extra#**.

Winter sport cover

Includes leisure bigfoot skiing, cat skiing, cross country skiing (along a designated cross country ski route only), glacier skiing, ice hockey, ice skating, luging (on ice only), mono skiing, off-piste skiing (with a professional guide only), recreational skiing, snowmobiling and tobogganing#**.

Benefits

This option covers you for:

  • reasonable overseas medical and hospital fees incurred after an incident on the slopes
  • cancellation and lost deposits, equipment hire and lift passes#**.

Conditions of cover

Activities covered provided you meet all 3 of the following conditions. Specifically the activity must:

  1. be conducted through a commercial operator
  2. be available to the general public and not be considered extreme risk
  3. not require any special skills, pre-fitness training program prior to the participation of the activity, or a high level of fitness to undertake.

  • Mopeds and scooters: The driver must hold a current Australian Driver's Licence (this doesn't include a learner's permit) or a valid driver’s licence for the country in which they're driving, even if that country does not require the policy holder to have a valid driver’s licence.
  • Motorcycles: The driver must hold a current Australian Motorcycle Licence or a valid driver’s licence for the country in which they're driving, even if that country does not require the policy holder to have a valid driver’s licence.
  • Mopeds, scooters, motorcycles, quad bikes: Both the driver and passenger must be wearing a helmet.
  • Mopeds, scooters and motorcycles: Cover is only provided for injuries sustained whilst on the moped, scooter, or motorcycle - there is no cover for damage to any two-wheeled vehicles.

If any of the conditions above aren't adhered to, your RACV Travel Insurance policy may not cover you in the case of an accident. International Drivers Permits are available for most countries. Please check the country list for full details and possible exclusions.

This option covers: leisure bigfoot skiing, cat skiing, cross country skiing (along a designated cross country ski route only), glacier skiing, ice hockey, ice skating, luging (on ice only), and mono skiing, Off-piste skiing (with a professional guide only), recreational ski racing, and recreational Skiing, snowmobiling and tobogganing.
