Pregnancy and what’s covered

Pregnancies are automatically covered if:

  • 25 weeks or less
  • a single, non-complicated pregnancy.

Cover for these pregnancies includes:

  • unexpected pregnancy complications
  • childbirth which was accelerated by accidental injury in limited circumstances.

Declare your pregnancy

Pregnancy is classed as a medical condition. You may need to disclose your pregnancy when buying your policy if it does not meet automatically covered criteria.

You need to apply for cover if you:

  • had complications with this or a previous pregnancy
  • are expecting a multiple pregnancy (such as triplets or twins)
  • have a medical condition which could have an adverse impact on your health.

If your pregnancy does not meet the automatically covered criteria, you’ll need to complete a medical assessment to check if cover is available. The assessment process may approve or deny cover for your pregnancy. The outcome will be noted on your certificate of insurance.

*Unless such complication are specifically accepted and noted on your certificate of insurance.

It is important that a person who is pregnant consider if they should travel, seek their doctor’s advice and ensure the policy provides the coverage they need.

For more information download the Product Disclosure Statement.

Pregnancy complications that:

  • occur after 26 weeks of gestation*
  • are pre-existing*.

Giving birth after 25 weeks

You’ll only be covered for childbirth if it occurs as the result of an accident, before the end of the 25th week of your pregnancy.

Health and care of the newborn

You’re not covered for this at any stage of the pregnancy or after giving birth.

Regular antenatal care

You’re not covered for regular care or doctor’s appointments related to your pregnancy.
