Inner-north Melbourne home with solar and hot water heat pump
Catherine Deveny is comedian, columnist and author of many hilarious books. But when it comes to looking after the environment, it’s no laughing matter.
“What had prevented me acting earlier was, like many, I was confused about what company to go with, what system I needed to meet our current and future needs, what brand was best.”
- Catherine Deveny, Coburg
She wanted to make her home in Melbourne’s inner-north more sustainable, and drive down the cost of her rising electricity bills. After contacting RACV Solar on the recommendation of a friend, we tailored a solution specifically for her needs.
In addition to getting solar panels, Catherine also upgraded her hot water system to a hot water heat pump, which has dramatically reduced her hot water costs by nearly 80%.
With her solar installed, Catherine is now the proud owner of an e-bike, that she charges with her solar power - the ultimate in clean, sustainable transport.
“The old system was removed and the new one was installed east/west facing, which will generate more energy in the mornings and afternoons than a straight north facing system, which suits our household’s energy patterns.”
- Catherine Deveny, Coburg

*The statistics for RACV Solar customers have been calculated based on the following assumptions: the site's prior electricity consumption and tariffs, 3D modelling software for commercial and complicated residential sites (identifying shade/structures that impact performance), local sunlight irradiance and climate data, Victorian grid electricity emissions intensity factor of 1.12 kg CO2 eq / kWh, and average home system size in Victoria.
