Based in Lockwood, just outside of Bendigo, Hazeldene's Chicken Farm has been producing and selling chickens for over 60 years.

Delivered in partnership with Bendigo Sustainability Group, Hazeldene's received funding from Sustainability Victoria to install solar as part of the Community Power Hub Loddon Mallee project, which aims to provide local businesses with renewable energy to power their operations.

"The Bendigo Sustainability Group's aim is to act on climate change and find ways to reduce greenhouse gases. Hazeldene's had an Environmental Officer who was keen to hear about what we were doing."

-Colin Lambie, President Bendigo Sustainability Group

Cola Solar, now part of RACV Solar, won the tender to design and install the system for Hazeldene's. "They were the front runner for the project," said Colin.

The team designed a 300kW solar solution, split into three 100kW installations across three Hazeldene's facilities.

Comprised of 222 solar panels on each of the three sites, the system is estimated to offset 300 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions a year.

"Hazeldene's can now look upon the fact they're using solar to offset their carbon footprint."

-Kane Hinchliffe, Business Development Manager, RACV Solar (formerly Cola Solar)

*The statistics for RACV Solar customers have been calculated based on the following assumptions: the site's prior electricity consumption and tariffs, 3D modelling software for commercial and complicated residential sites (identifying shade/structures that impact performance), local sunlight irradiance and climate data, Victorian grid electricity emissions intensity factor of 1.12 kg CO2 eq / kWh, and average home system size in Victoria.
