The average life of a battery is around 3-4 years, although they can last up to 6 years in the right conditions.
Keeping your batteries connected to a maintenance charger when not being used will help maximise their service life. Regular testing and regular replacement helps make sure you never get caught in the middle of the bay with a flat battery.
A boat battery needs to be able to withstand vibration. The manufacturers achieve this by adding support using hot melt glue to lock them in place. Marine batteries also need to be able to deal with cycling deeper than a car battery.
Marine Batteries

Calcium Batteries

AGM Batteries
Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) batteries deliver superior performance and durability, featuring extended cycle life and high depth of discharge, making them ideal for deep cycle applications.
Starter Batteries
Designed to provide a burst of energy for a short duration, starting batteries are best for delivering high cranking power to start engines.
Deep Cycle Batteries
Deep cycle batteries are designed to provide a steady and sustained amount of electrical power over an extended period of time. Deep cycle batteries are built to handle repetitive, deep discharges without degrading in performance.
Jump starting a boat is similar to a car, except you need to make sure there is reasonable ventilation before connecting the battery.
Many boats have the battery in a confined space so you need to make sure there are not any fuel fumes before jumping.
We recommend keeping a jump pack (like the IS-1500) on board.
Keeping it fully charged when not in use by connecting a multistage charger is the best way to maximise battery life.

Price Match Guarantee is only available to purchases made within the Melbourne metropolitan area by RACV customers and must be based on a like-for-like battery (same Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) rating and battery construction) delivered and installed with comparable warranty. Claims need to be made within 4 weeks of the battery purchase date.
