RACV investing in EV network in Victoria
RACV first invested in EV charging nearly 10 years ago via the installation of some slow chargers in its Victorian Clubs and Resorts. In 2017 RACV became a significant shareholder in Chargefox, now Australia’s largest charging network, and in 2022 became a major Shareholder in JET Charge, Australia’s leading supplier of charging equipment.
Given increasing utilisation of RACV’s first-generation ultra-rapid charging stations, RACV have committed to a significant upgrade of current charging stations, an increase in the number of these charging stations and are looking at a further expansion of RACV’s public charging network.
These upgrades will commence in February 2024 and be completed by the middle of 2025.
All of the charging stations will be connected via the Chargefox App and become part of Australia’s largest charging network, with over 1800 public plugs available to access across Australia and growing at over 90 per month. Download the Chargefox App to explore the network of charging stations.
RACV General Manager Energy Greg Edye, said: “It is time to replace the first-generation technology with new high-quality chargers of varying speeds.
“RACV will be replacing 24 Tritium DC chargers at RACV’s seven public charging sites. These achieve an 80 per cent charge in 15-30 minutes (depending on the EV make/model) for users looking for close to a full charge in a short time.
“RACV will also be installing six new fast DC chargers (50KW) at Victorian RACV Clubs and Resorts. These achieve an 80 per cent charge in one to two hours (depending on EV battery size) for users having a day activity at a resort.
“In addition, RACV will be upgrading 22 AC chargers (7KW to 22 KW) at RACV Clubs and Resorts. These achieve an 80 per cent charge in about five hours for those with longer dwell times, notably in-house guests.
“RACV are also looking to further invest in locations which tie in RACV Club and Resort facilities to customers visiting from all parts of Victoria and will have further announcements to make on this in the coming period.”
RACV Executive General Manager Leisure Craig Peachey, said: “Upgrading all these facilities and looking to add more to help EV owners visit RACV Club and Resort properties in Victoria with more confidence and regularity, is very exciting.”
