Casey Jeffery, Hide and Seek, 2024, oil and acrylic on pine, 120 x 90cm, Courtesy the artist and Lon Gallery
Tia Ansell, Tim Gresham, Rubaba Haider, Casey Jeffery and Dani Marti celebrate textiles in a variety of forms. From showcasing the labour and rhythm of producing tapestries and cloth, to works that replicate textiles onto paper and canvas, this exhibition explores textiles as material, subject and process.
These artists push the boundaries of working with textiles. Tim’s woven and rhythmic tapestries explore the relationship between colour, light, and perception, while Dani blurs the boundaries between sculpture and textiles, using ropes and industrial materials. Tia straddles painting and weaving, by layering paint to the structural grids of warp and weft, to represent architecture and place.
Reflecting on the intimate texture of handmade fabric, Rubaba’s intricate paintings form powerful meditations on belonging and cultural identity. Casey elevates the patterns found in everyday life through transforming domestic textiles onto canvas, imbued with nuanced nostalgia.
Beyond Textiles invites viewers to explore the tactile language of fibre and its capacity to hold stories, emotions, and histories.
