Join RACV for the Albury Wodonga Food Drive and help support people in need
RACV is supporting Albury Wodonga Regional FoodShare by organising a food drive, which will run from 15 June – 9 July.
The FoodShare volunteer run charity is the sole logistical hub receiving, rescuing, storing and co-ordinating the distribution of emergency food relief across 10 local government areas in the Albury Wodonga region of Victoria and NSW.
“Families, individuals and businesses have been doing it tough since early last year and continue to do so,” said Louise Steinfort, General Manager, Social Impact and Corporate Communications, RACV. “We are asking RACV members and the public in the Albury Wodonga area to donate food items and drop them into food collection boxes at the RACV Wodonga Retail Store on High Street which is open from 9am to 5pm weekdays.”
At the end of the food drive, RACV’s team in Wodonga will take the donated food items to Albury Wodonga Regional FoodShare who will then deliver them to local families and individuals in need.
Peter Matthews, General Manager, Albury Wodonga Regional FoodShare said: “We have seen a 40 per cent increase in our services this year, because of COVID-19 and the 2020 bushfires. We’re anticipating that Victoria’s recent lockdown will generate even greater demand. So please drop off your donations at the RACV Wodonga Store.”
“We often find that people aren’t sure what to donate. High on the list are tins of spaghetti, baked beans, and vegetables, bags of rice and pasta and jars of coffee,” Mr Matthews said.
RACV already has strong ties to Wodonga and the wider North East Victoria. “We recently completed a solar and battery installation at the Albury Wodonga Regional FoodShare as part of our Solar in the Regions program – a $1million project to install solar and battery systems, free of charge, on community buildings in bushfire-prone Victorian towns”, said Louise Steinfort.
About Solar in the Regions
RACV Solar’s $1 million Solar in the Regions community investment program is one of the largest non-government donation programs for solar panels and batteries in regional Victoria, to improve safety for communities that are bushfire-prone, and at risk of being cut off from electricity and communications networks during emergencies. Solar in the Regions is supported by a comprehensive community partner program. The Albury Wodonga Regional FoodShare is one of 28 bushfire-impacted sites RACV identified to receive a solar and battery installation. These installations will reduce ongoing electricity costs and assist in providing much-needed community support.
